Support and Community Management

This position is

  • 10 – 20 hours per week (a bit flexible, total budget for this position is ~15.000 EUR / yr)
  • preferably self-employed (you submit invoices to the company)
  • 100% remote / mobile work

Your profile:

Required:

  • You're communicative and have basic technical knowledge in Android mobile apps / networking area.
  • You want to help people having trouble within the environment with or around of DAVx5 (Calendar, Contacts and Tasks apps).
  • You know what standards (like CalDAV / CardDAV) and APIs are and how to read them.
  • Good knowledge in English and German (because a large part of support requests comes from German-speaking people). French would also be helpful. Other languages are also very good.
  • Decent skills in writing (our support is all done text-based, no phone calls)

Recommended:

  • Big Bonus: You already know and/or use DAVx⁵ personally
  • Some knowledge to work with the creation of graphics (vector and raster)
  • Some knowledge to work on video creation (tutorial videos for services and features)
  • Bonus: basic knowledge in git and Github / GitLab
  • Bonus: skills in scripting and Web technologies
  • Bonus: you're committed to Open Source Software

Primary tasks you'd work on:

  • Make first-level support in our ticket system / emails. Additionally also on our Github Discussions, and on other platforms like Reddit where people post their questions.
  • This includes reproducing problems with DAVx5, analyzing error reports and preparing them for developers so that they can work on it.
  • Communicate and promote DAVx5 in various channels.
  • The total number of working hours and also when it's done is flexible, but it's important that tickets are answered within a few days at minimum (ideally between 1 and 2 workdays).

Secondary tasks:

  • Other administrative tasks (like communicating with our organization clients and manage licenses)
  • Update our website and manual
  • Alpha and beta test our DAVx⁵ and ICSx⁵ releases
  • Create graphical content (images and videos), either for helping people or to make features more understandable
  • Update our manual (git) and website (Typo 3 CMS)

Work environment:

  • Work can be done in home-office with occasional online meetings.
  • You'll have a very experienced team that can be asked if you don't know how to solve a question by a user.
  • With 10 – 20 hours per week you will have a great work-life balance and enough time to study or even do other work.
  • Work in a passionate small team of people, to promote open-source products and digital sovereignty and promote products made in Europe.
  • Work for a project that is already used by 400.000+ people on a daily basis, as well as in various companies and even big organizations around the globe!
  • DAVx⁵ is a critical product for many people, so new releases and updates (usually once a month) have to be tested carefully and you'll also be an alpha and beta tester for new releases.

Who we are:

bitfire web engineering GmbH is the company behind the DAVx⁵ project and we are dedicated to open source – while using it ourselves we're also developing open source software. For many years we've created our Android synchronization suite DAVx⁵ in a small team. This project became the main work and product of our company in the last years and it is getting bigger and more popular and we're looking for someone joining our small and open-minded team to be able to make a step forward while maintaining the great level of quality of our app. We have an inclusive mindset and are interested in a diverse team.
